At TLC Fostering, we believe that great support starts with great preparation. That’s why we provide comprehensive training from the very beginning of your journey—and continue to invest in your development every step of the way.
Fostering, particularly within a specialist setting, is a role that evolves over time. Children and young people come with unique experiences, needs and personalities, and our training is designed to give you the confidence, skills and knowledge to respond to each situation with care and understanding.

Ongoing Training & Development

Your learning doesn’t stop once you’re approved—ongoing training is a key part of being a TLC foster parent. We offer a wide range of courses and workshops throughout the year to help you continue building your skills and confidence.

Our training is flexible, accessible and tailored to meet both your needs and the needs of the children you care for. As part of your development, you will have access to:

Regular training sessions and refresher courses
Online learning opportunities
Specialist workshops led by experienced professionals
Guidance and support from your Supervising Social Worker

Specialist Training for Complex Needs

As a specialist fostering agency, we provide additional, tailored training based on the specific needs of the children and young people placed with you. You do not need prior medical experience—our expert teams will ensure you are fully trained and supported.

Examples of specialist training may include:

Manual handling techniques to safely support children with physical disabilities or mobility needs
Administering medication and understanding care plans for children with medical conditions
Use of specialist equipment, such as hoists, feeding equipment or mobility aids
First aid and emergency response training, including condition-specific care
Supporting children with sensory impairments, such as visual or hearing difficulties
Behavioural support strategies, tailored to children with additional or complex needs

This training is delivered in a practical, hands-on way, giving you the confidence to provide safe, effective and compassionate care.
