Types of Fostering at TLC

Types of Fostering

At TLC Fostering, we provide a range of fostering opportunities to suit different lifestyles, experiences and levels of availability. What makes us truly unique is our specialist focus, supporting children and young people aged 0–18 with additional needs and complex medical conditions.
We are proud to be one of the very few agencies in the UK offering this level of specialist fostering. Our foster parents play a vital role in providing safe, nurturing homes where children can receive the care, stability and understanding they need to thrive.

Long-Term Fostering

Long-term fostering offers children and young people a stable and consistent home when they are unable to return to their birth family. As a long-term foster carer, you will provide ongoing care, becoming a central and meaningful part of a childs life as they grow and develop.

This type of fostering is incredibly rewarding, allowing you to build lasting relationships and provide the security every child deserves.

Short-Term Fostering

Short-term fostering involves caring for a child for a temporary period while plans are made for their future. This could be while assessments are carried out, or while longer-term arrangements are identified.

Short-term foster carers provide stability and reassurance during times of uncertainty, helping children feel safe and supported through transitions.

Respite Fostering

Respite fostering offers short breaks for children and young people, as well as valuable support for their full-time foster families. This might involve weekend stays, school holidays or planned breaks.

Its a flexible way to foster and can be a great introduction for those considering fostering, while still making a meaningful difference.

Specialist Fostering – Supporting Children with Additional Needs

At the heart of our specialist service for children and young people with disabilities and complex medical needs is a dedicated team of staff and foster famous who really do make a huge impact on the lives of children and young people. These children require carers who can offer not only a loving home, but also patience, understanding and a willingness to learn.

We welcome foster parents from all walks of life. Whether you have experience raising your own family, a background in nursing or care, or transferable skills from other areas, we value the knowledge, compassion and life experience you bring. At TLC, we recognise that great foster carers come from diverse backgrounds, and we celebrate the unique strengths each individual contributes to our community.

This type of fostering can include supporting children with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, sensory impairments or complex health conditions. While the challenges can be greater, so too are the rewards, helping a child reach milestones, build confidence and experience the world in ways they may not have before.

Whatever type of fostering you choose, you will never be on your own. With TLC, you’ll be supported by a dedicated team who are passionate about helping you succeed, so you can provide the very best care to the children who need it most.
